Our Coach & Barn
Our team is proud to be instructed by coach Julia Wright of Featherdown Stables. Coach Julie was lucky enough to have grown up with horses in her backyard, and grew up teaching many friends and young children to love riding and to love horses as well. While she herself was never formally taught, she learned from the best professionals through the books that she read.
Julie's formal instruction began once she started college and became a member of the Skidmore College Riding Team in Saratoga Springs, New York. While there, she worked in the barn, and participated in the IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) competitions alongside her teammates. Upon graduation, she returned to Maryland to manage a small barn of fox hunters and breeding stock. Her interest in breeding continues with both ponies and Thoroughbreds, with many of the Featherdown school horses being OTTBS from that breeding program. Julie remains involved with the Baltimore County Horse Show Association after serving eight years as President, board member, and Vice President. Featherdown has a regular competitive presence during the BCHSA season and Medal Finals. Coach Julie is not only called "coach" by our team, but is also coach to her barn's IEA (Interscholastic Equitation Association) team the Greenway Grasshoppers. Through this team, she has been recently serving on the Zone 3 Ethics Committee of the Interscholastic Association, and as a Regional President. |
